CEE434 Students toured the construction of the Integrated Science Building at UMass. The steel is shown being erected.
Some closer views of bracing and steel details are shown here. Lateral support is by moment frames in the long direction and braced frames in the other direction.
After the steel framing the light gage steel is installed to support the cladding, water barrier and insullation as shown in the next photos.
Then the supports for brick and glass facades were added. Details follow the architectural mockup that was constructed on site (right).
Inside the slabs are placed, steel is fireproofed and ductwork and other utilities installed.
Some photos of the completed structure.
